| Uttaran is a daily soap broadcasting on the Indian Channel Colors. It replaced Bigg Boss Season 2 and went on air on December 1, 2008. Within the very first month it was able to retain a position in the Top 20 programmes in India. This is a story of 8 year old Ichcha, born in the slums of Mumbai (A big city in Mumbai) but one who desired much more than what her destiny has in store for her. In the hope of giving her a better life, Ichcha's mother Damini joins a rich household as a maid. Ichcha befriends Tapasya (the only daughter of the Thakur household), and they both form a deep bond. Jogi Thakur the master of the house is eventually revealed to be cause of Iccha's father's death. He and Divya (Thakur's wife) accept Ichcha as their daughter. Ichcha's life takes a turn for the worse when the only daughter of the household Tapasya starts hating her for getting everyone's attention because of her simple living and high thinking personality. Tapasya makes a plan to take Ichcha to the jungle and leaves her their so that she will be lost or maybe even die there. Everyone found out about this and her father found Ichcha and punished Tapasya severely for what she did.
